Faqs

A Tri-Core K-Factor Transformer is a specially designed transformer built to handle non-linear electrical loads that generate harmonic currents. The tri-core design improves magnetic flux distribution, while the K-factor rating indicates the transformer’s ability to safely handle harmonic heating without performance degradation.

The K-Factor represents a transformer’s capability to withstand additional heating caused by harmonic currents generated by non-linear loads such as computers, LED lighting, UPS systems, and variable frequency drives. A higher K-Factor rating means the transformer can safely manage higher harmonic content.

Tri-Core designs improve magnetic balance, flux distribution, and thermal performance within the transformer. This design helps reduce core losses, improve efficiency, and support stable operation when supplying power to harmonic-producing loads.

These transformers are widely used in environments with high harmonic loads, including:

  • Data centers
  • IT infrastructure facilities
  • Commercial buildings
  • Hospitals
  • Industrial automation systems
  • Buildings with large UPS installations

Harmonic currents cause additional heating in transformer windings and cores, which can reduce efficiency and shorten transformer lifespan. K-Factor transformers are specifically designed to handle these conditions safely by minimizing overheating and maintaining stable performance.
